Sulfonated phenolic resin (SMP), also known as sulfomethyl phenolic resin, is a cation exchange resin. This resin appears as a brownish-red powder in appearance, with a pH value of 8. It has good mechanical strength and can withstand acrylic acid. Its characteristics include high-temperature resistance (stability above 200℃), salt resistance, and anti-filtering loss performance. It is mainly used as a treatment agent for oilfield drilling fluids and a softening agent for hard water, and can stabilize the well wall, improve lubrication, and form a protective mud cake.
