Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC)

Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) is widely used in industries such as petroleum, food, medicine, textiles and papermaking.

After cellulose is carboxymethylated, it becomes carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), which has the properties of thickening, film formation, adhesion, moisture retention, colloid protection, emulsification and suspension, and is widely used in industries such as petroleum, food, medicine, textiles and papermaking. It is one of the most important cellulose ether products.

Product Introduction:

Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) is a colorless and odorless white flocculent powder with stable properties. It is soluble in water and its aqueous solution is a neutral or alkaline transparent viscous liquid. It can be dissolved in other water-soluble gums and resins and is insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol. CMC can be used as a binder, thickener, suspending agent, emulsifier, dispersant, stabilizer, sizing agent, etc.
Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) is the most produced, most widely used and most convenient-to-use product among cellulose ether products. It is commonly known as "industrial monosodium glutamate".

Main Applications:

1. Used in drilling and well-digging engineering for oil and gas exploration
① CMC-containing mud can form a thin and hard filter cake on the well wall, reducing water loss.
② After adding CMC to the mud, the drilling rig can obtain a low initial shear force, making the mud easier to release the gas inside and quickly discharging debris into the mud pit.
③ Like other suspended and dispersed systems, drilling mud and other suspensions have a certain existence period. Adding CMC can make it stable and extend the existence period.
④ CMC-containing mud is less affected by mold, so there is no need to maintain a high pH value or use preservatives.
⑤ When used as a drilling mud washing fluid treatment agent, CMC can resist the pollution of various soluble salts.
⑥ CMC-containing mud has good stability and can reduce water loss even at temperatures above 150°C.

CMC with high viscosity and high substitution degree is suitable for less dense mud, while CMC with low viscosity and high substitution degree is suitable for denser mud. The selection of CMC should be determined according to the type of mud, regional conditions, well depth and other different conditions.
