Product Introduction

Sulfonated asphalt powder is an organic treatment agent used in petroleum drilling fluids. It achieves the effect of preventing wellbore collapse by inhibiting the hydration and dispersion of shale. Its main component is sulfonated asphalt, which is produced by sulfonating and emulsifying petroleum asphalt. It appears as brownish-brown sheets or powders, with a density of 0.98 g/cm³, a pH value of 8-9, containing 70% water-soluble substances and 25% oil-soluble substances. It has both emulsifying and high-temperature resistance properties. This product uses the strong hydration effect of sulfonic acid groups to adsorb the surface of shale and prevent particle dispersion. At the same time, it uses insoluble components to fill the formation pores and fractures to enhance the stability of the wellbore. It can reduce the high-temperature and high-pressure filtration loss of the drilling fluid to less than 25 ml/30 minutes, improve the quality of the mud cake, and also have functions such as lubrication, drag reduction, and prolonging the life of the drill bit [3]. The recommended dosage is 1% - 6%, and it is suitable for various drilling fluid systems. It is often used in combination with other treatment agents [5]. The product is packaged in 25 kg per bag and should be stored in a cool and dry place to prevent moisture absorption. 

Main purpose

Because sulfonated asphalt contains sulfonic acid groups and has a strong hydration effect, when adsorbed on the shale interface, it can prevent the hydration and dispersion of shale particles, thereby playing a role in preventing well collapse. At the same time, the insoluble part can fill the pore throats and fractures,起到 sealing effect， and can cover the shale interface， improving the quality of the mud cake.

Sulfonated asphalt also plays a role in lubrication and reducing the loss of filtrate under high temperature and high pressure in the drilling fluid.

2. Lubrication and drag reduction， reducing the lifting capacity of the drill string and the torque， extending the service life of the drill bit， preventing and relieving stuck pipe；
3. Forming a thin and tough mud cake to strengthen the well wall. Controlling high-temperature dehydration；
4. Controlling the high-temperature shear strength of the mud；
5. It can be used in combination with other mud treatment agents. It is recommended to add 1-6%.
